الاسكندرية ترنيمة الزمان ومعشوقة التاريخ لا أدرى إن كنت أسكنها أم انها تسكن وتتوسد حناياي )الاسكندر الاكبر)

Alexandria Hymn to time and date lass, I do not know if I live in it or it lives and pillows in my knot (Alexander the Great).
Alexandria, what does it pop up in your mind? Is it your last summer holiday? Photos you have taken by Stanley Bridge last summer? The wonderful breeze and cool Mediterranean? Boats, the grilled fish with sayadeya rice, Bahary and Makram's ice cream? Meeting the Alexandrians; agda3 nas? May be the old Romanian culture and lately the great Bibliotheca...

Alexandria has always been that wonderful place headed by Egyptians and Non-Egyptians as a resort and a place to enjoy holidays and rest. Even we –Alexandrians- never enjoy the city in summer because of the high population density and the crowd plus the terrible traffic jam.
Well, this time, I'd like to focus some light spots on my beloved hometown; Alexandria and lately capital of Arab tourism for the year 2010.
Surely you've learnt by heart in your history lessons that Ἀλεξάνδρεια –as written in Greek– was founded by Mr. Alexander the great centuries and centuries ago, back then it was January 331 BC and since then Alex was the capital until the Muslims' conquest by Amr ibn al-'As in 642 AD.

Leave history now. Alexandria, these days is witnessing ceremonial festivals for its selection as the Capital of Arab Tourism. Finally, Arab countries decided to take a positive action and cooperate in order to overcome the obstacles facing tourism between Arab countries. Such event offers a new way of thinking and creativity for boosting tourism in Arab countries.

Alex won the title over other twelve Arab cities. No wonder! It's the city of diverse and of several civilizations as Greek, Roman, Coptic, and Islamic. Not to mention its cultural sites, such as Pompey’s Pillar (Amoud Al-Swary), the Fort of Qaitbay, the Ancient Roman Amphitheatre, the Greco-Romanian Museum, and religious sites, such as El-Mursi Abul Abbas Mosque, and Saint Mark’s Church.

Also –to my pride- Alex is the home of the Great bibliotheca. I remember first time I visited it, I was only gazing at the large number of tourists all having their cameras visiting such a huge edifice and a great cultural corner, once or twice I was going to forget I'm in Egypt. I guess no foreigner after visiting it will never wonder when he/she see cars and airports in the city , then they will understand we have schools and universities :D . You can check by this website to know more about the BA also you can read books there online http://www.bibalex.org/ .

Talking about the beauty of such city and its shores that extend along the Mediterranean seacoast, its mild climate and whole atmosphere won't go in one article, so I decided to leave its description for you. Now I'm now inviting you to visit Alex, yet this time not only to spend your holiday and enjoy time with family and friends but also to have a look in the great culture we are having and know the place where humans from all races have the glory to be in…
Facts about the city:
Nickname: Pearl of Mediterranean.

Alexandria's national day is 26 July celebrating the departure of King Farouk from Ras-El- teen in Alexandria back then it was 1952, Congratulation to all my neighbors; Alexandrians.
